Angels win opener
The Angels picked up a nice win on Monday, 2-0 at Houston in a pitching battle. It was just the team’s second win in seven games. Los Angeles is 15-8 overall and 10-1 on the road. They are now averaging 5.00 runs per game while giving up 4.22 per contest.
Shohei Ohtani gets his fourth start of the season today. He lasted just two innings against Boston last week, allowing three runs in a 10-1 loss. He is 2-1 on the mound this year with a 3.60 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. Ohtani has 19 strikeouts with four walks over 15 innings of work.
Astros have win streak ended
Houston continued to pitch well, allowing just two runs, but it still suffered a loss to the Angels on Monday. The loss snapped a 6-game win streak for them. The Astros are now 16-8 overall and 6-4 at home. Houston is putting up 4.79 runs per game this season while allowing 2.46 per contest.
Charlie Morton will be starting for the Astros tonight. Morton is 3-0 through four starts with a 0.72 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP. Over 25 innings of work, he has 33 strikeouts with six walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Angeles have won all five games against division opponents this year and they have won seven straight over a right-handed starter. However, they are just 3-9 in their last 12 against a winning team.
Houston
The Astros have won 25 of their last 32 home games and 6-1 in their last seven after allowing two runs or less in their previous game. Houston has won eight of Morton’s last 11 starts.
Prediction:
The Angels were able to match, and actually exceed, Houston’s pitching on Monday in the 2-0 win. I don’t think they can sustain that throughout the series. If Houston is going to continue to hold opponents to 2 runs or less, than it is going to win consistently. I think they can pitch well again tonight while Ohtani may struggle on the road against this improving Houston lineup.
The Pick: Houston Astros -150
