Angels vs. A’s Prediction
After taking the first two games of the series, the Los Angeles Angels will go for the sweep today in Oakland when they take on the A’s at 3:35PM ET.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, both teams have betting odds of -110 to win today’s game while the over/under is sitting at 8.5 runs. The pitching matchup will feature right-hander Matt Shoemaker and Eric Surkamp, the left-hander.
Bet Today’s Angels vs. A’s Game
Shoemaker was hammered for six runs in three-plus innings by the Rangers last Friday in his season debut. It was a reminder of how Shoemaker wouldn’t have made the Angels’ rotation had it not been for C.J. Wilson’s injury. Once the Halos are healthy again, Shoemaker will likely find himself back in Triple-A.

Surkamp was serviceable for the A’s last Friday when he allowed just two runs in 4 1/3 innings versus the Mariners. Oakland chose Surkamp over Jesse Hahn for the game with Felix Doubront (elbow) dealing with an injury. The 28-year-old journeyman knows that if he’s ineffective tonight, the A’s can always go with Hahn the next time through the rotation so look for Surkamp to be locked in.
MLB PICKS: The Angels are 2-6 in Shoemaker’s last eight starts and 2-6 in his last eight starts versus the American League West. It’s not as if Surkamp gives the A’s a decided edge in the pitching matchup today, but he’s the lesser of two evils. It can be difficult to sweep a division rival, especially at their home park. So take the A’s at a decent price.
