Angels edged in opener
The Los Angeles Angels had won four of their last five games coming into Monday, but were edged by the Rangers, 8-7 in 11 innings. The Angels are 62-65 overall, 29-34 on the road and 64-56 with the over. Los Angeles has Jaime Barria on the mound today. He is 4-6 on the season with a 6.62 ERA.
The Angels jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first and 7-1 lead in the second, but saw the Rangers slowly claw back to win in extra innings. Dillon Peters got the start and went four innings, but gave up five runs on seven hits. Cam Bedrosian blew the save, his third of the year, while Noe Ramirez took the loss by giving up the winning run. He is 4-2 on the year. At the plate, Albert Pujols hit his 19th home run of the year and drove in three runs while Justin Upton had two hits and two RBI.
Rangers end skid
Texas had its four-game losing streak come to an end on Monday with the 1-run win over the Angels at home. The Rangers are 61-64 on the season, 36-26 at home and 63-58 with the under. Texas has Brock Burke getting the start today. He is making his MLB debut in this start.
The Rangers managed a great comeback last night, ending with Isaiah Kiner-Falefa had a RBI infield single in the 11th. Hunter Pence led Texas at the plate in the win, as he had three hits, a RBI and scored a run. Scott Heineman drove in a pair of runs as well. Kolby Allard got rocked in his start, allowing seven runs in five innings on seven hits, but the Texas bullpen threw six scoreless innings. Rafael Montero got the win by pitching the final two innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Angels have won seven straight doubleheader openers, but are just 2-8 in their last 10 road games.
Texas
The Rangers are 6-2 in their last eight against a losing team and 16-6 in their last 22 doubleheader openers.
Prediction:
Texas should be feeling pretty good after that comeback on Monday night. Today they face Barria, who has struggled in recent starts and has a 5.40 ERA against the Rangers this year. Burke is making his MLB debut, but that can work to a team’s advantage sometimes as hitters don’t have much film to prep for. The Rangers showed their bullpen can work past the Los Angeles hitters last night. I like the momentum Texas should have from last night’s win and I think it will carry over this afternoon.
MLB Prediction: Texas Rangers +120
