Angels take doubleheader opener
The Los Angeles Angels won Tuesday’s doubleheader opener 5-1, but suffered a 3-2 loss in the nightcap and they have lost two of three in the series thus far. The Angels are 63-66 overall, 30-35 on the road and 64-58 with the over. Los Angeles has Patrick Sandoval on the mound today. He is 0-1 on the year with a 5.79 ERA.
In Tuesday’s opener, the Angels scored three runs in the first inning and didn’t look back. Mike Trout hit his 42nd home run of the season and drove in his 98th run of the year in the win while Andrew Heaney struck out 14 Rangers over eight innings to improve to 3-3 on the year. In Game 2, the Angels lost in 11 innings, but rallied late to force extra innings. Brian Goodwin got a solo home run in the loss while Shohei Ohtani had three hits and a RBI. Jamie Barria threw five innings in his start, allowing two runs on five hits. Ty Buttrey took the loss in relief to fall to 6-6 on the year.
Rangers trying to heat up
Texas has struggled in recent weeks, but is looking to take three of four from the Angels this evening. The Rangers are 62-65 on the season, 37-27 at home and 65-58 with the under. Texas has Mike Minor getting the start this evening. He is 11-7 on the season with a 2.94 ERA.
Texas had just five hits in the opener and produced only one run. That came on a solo home run for Willie Calhoun. Joe Palumbo took the loss by allowing three runs in 1.2 innings. Game two saw the Texas pitching give up just two runs over 11 innings. Brock Burke threw six scoreless innings in the start while Emmanuel Chase got the win by pitching the final two innings. Texas won the game in the 11th on an error from Pujols. Nick Solak had a solo home run to lead the Rangers at the plate.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Angels have won four of their last five games following a loss, but just 3-9 in their last 12 road games.
Texas
The Rangers are 7-3 in their last 10 games against losing teams and 6-1 in their last seven home games against a losing team.
Prediction:
The Rangers want to try and get back on track and they have their top pitcher on the mound today. Minor has been really strong in recent weeks, allowing just three earned runs over his last 22 innings. He has been especially strong against the Angels, posting a 1.86 ERA over three starts this year. Sandoval has pitched in just three games this year and all have been a struggle. He has given up nine earned runs over 14 innings. That is going to be a problem against a Texas team that can mash the ball.
MLB Prediction: Texas Rangers -130
