Seattle Mariners DFS SPIN
Robbie Ray gave up 10 hits and six runs over three innings Sunday in as loss as the Astros defeated the Mariners 8-5. This one was ugly from the get. Ray gave up back-to-back homers to Jose Altuve and Jeremy Peña before even getting an out, and the southpaw gave up three more runs in the second and another in the third before exiting. The swing-and-miss stuff he’s shown as of late was not there, with one total strikeout. Ray has been excellent for the majority of this season, but to say he didn’t have it Sunday is quite the understatement. He’ll have a rematch with the Astros on Sunday.
Houston Astros DFS SPIN
Justin Verlander picked up his 13th victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, limiting the Mariners to just one run on four hits over seven strong innings. The 39-year-old hurler piled up nine strikeouts on the day while issuing two free passes. He carried a shutout bid into the seventh inning until Carlos Santana belted a one-out solo homer. The Mariners then used a walk, single and stolen base to put two runners in scoring position with only one out, but Verlander battled back to strike out the next two hitters to end the threat. He got 14 swings and misses on 101 pitches in the game — 12 of those on his fastball that topped out at 99.3 mph — while posting a CSW of 23 percent. Now 13-3 on the season he’ll tote a magnificent 1.86 ERA and 0.88 WHIP into a rematch against the Mariners at home on Thursday.
