New York Mets DFS SPIN
Starling Marte went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in the Mets’ Opening Day win over the Marlins on Thursday afternoon. Perhaps most important to see there is the stolen base. After leading the majors with 47 swipes in 2021, Marte went just 18-for-27 in stolen bases over 118 games last season while being banged up with multiple injuries. The 34-year-old was eased into action this spring coming off groin surgery, but he looks healthy right now and ready to run under the new rules in MLB. He’s one of several players who could see a healthy jump in stolen bases this year. Players went 21-for-23 in stolen bases on Opening Day on Thursday compared to 5-for-9 in stolen base attempts on Opening Day last year. Off to the races?
Miami Marlins DFS SPIN
Garrett Cooper smacked a two-run homer in Thursday’s Opening Day loss to the Mets. Cooper took Max Scherzer deep to tie things up in the sixth — a 422-foot blast to right-center field — though the Mets would eventually take the lead back for good. And while it doesn’t show up in the boxscore, Garrett also made a pair of sterling defensive plays at first base. Cooper’s health has been an ongoing issue, but he owns a .794 OPS (116 OPS+) over 331 games with the Marlins. Assuming he can stay healthy (a big assumption) and hold off Yuli Gurriel for playing time, Cooper can be useful in deeper mixed leagues.
