Mets keen on silencing Stanton, Marlins
If last night’s events in Flushing are any indication, the rest of the National League can thank the Mets for rousing a sleeping giant.
Busting out of a season-long funk, Giancarlo Stanton crushed two mammoth homers to push Miami past New York. The right fielder matched his career high with five RBIs, too, setting the table for this afternoon’s rubber match at Citi Field. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv still like the host team to rebound. The Marlins, on the other hand, enter as +175 underdogs.
Stanton entered Tuesday’s tilt holding a .218 batting average and a good-but-not-great 15 dingers. Now, he seems poised to go on one of his prolific tears. Such a power spree would undoubtedly buoy Miami, which sits just 1 ½ games behind Terry Collins’ club in the race for the senior circuit’s second wild card.
The Mets’ hopes of securing the series finale shortly rest squarely on Jacob deGrom’s right arm. In his past 10 starts, the fireballer boasts 61 strikeouts and a 1.04 WHIP. He’s also 3-1 with a 2.80 ERA in seven career turns vs. the Fish.

In contrast, the Marlins’ Justin Nicolino has only faced New York twice. We’re very bullish on Collins’ troops to improve to 25-17 in Gotham. After all, they possess a red-hot Stanton doppelganger in Yoenis Cespedes. In addition to his squad-high 21 taters, the All-Star is hitting at a .400-plus clip since June 26.
