Urena posts first win of season
Marlins starter Jose Urena, who came into yesterday’s game with an 0-7 record, notched his first win due to solid offensive support. Urena wasn’t great, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and a walk over five innings. He left for a pinch hitter in the top of the sixth with Miami holding a 5-4 lead and it tacked on two more in that frame for insurance. Kyle Barraclough picked up his second save. Brian Anderson paced the offense as he went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Derek Dietrich finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. J.T. Riddle was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk.
Martinez struggles in first start back
St. Louis right-hander Carlos Martinez came off the disabled list after posting fantastic numbers pre-injury, but he struggled with his command Tuesday night as he allowed two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and five walks over four innings. He left with a no-decision as reliever Preston Guilmet gave up three earned runs to take the loss. Matt Carpenter was 3-for-5 with a run scored to help pace the Cardinals offense. Jose Martinez was 2-for-4 with a run. Marcell Ozuna finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Wei-Yin Chen (1-3, 6.10 ERA) will start today for Miami, while St. Louis turns to Jack Flaherty (2-1, 2.62).
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are 16-35 in their last 51 road games. Miami is 4-9 in its last 13 games.
St. Louis
The under is 7-2 in the Cardinals’ last nine home games. The under is 10-4-1 in St. Louis’ last 15 games.
Prediction:
I can’t trust Chen here on the road. Some of St. Louis’ hitters have started to heat up, particularly Ozuna, and I don’t think Chen can fool them. Flaherty has been showing outstanding stuff and poise on the mound. I believe he’ll tame the Fish here.
