Dodgers to keep leaning on arms vs. Brewers
Scott Kazmir has been fairly dominant for well over a month now. Candidly, though, the lefty’s just doing his best to keep pace with the other arms in the Dodgers’ staff.
Los Angeles strives to continue its exemplary run of work on the mound in tonight’s opener vs. Milwaukee, with a 10:10 p.m. ET first pitch on the West Coast. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI lean toward Dave Roberts’ club here. The Brewers, on the other hand, enter as +145 underdogs.
If not for some Grade A results on the rubber, Los Angeles could be in a pretty precarious spot in the National League West. At present, however, Roberts’ troops sit a manageable six games behind the first-place San Francisco. While it’s easy to lavish praise on Clayton Kershaw and a bullpen that holds an NL-best 3.01 ERA, Kazmir deserves equal credit for persevering through a rough April. The veteran’s 3-0 with a 3.47 ERA and 39 strikeouts in his past six starts.
This evening, he’ll battle the Brew Crew’s Junior Guerra. The 31-year-old rookie is still searching for his first triumph since May 19. Most recently, Guera limited the Mets to a run on five base knocks over 6 2/3 innings.
As always, though, Milwaukee’s sketchy offense could leave him in a tight spot from the beginning. The Brewers have also dropped five of their last seven meetings with the Dodgers. Stick with the trends.
