Twins take opener
Minnesota opened the series with a win on Thursday over the Rangers, 13-6. Minnesota is 73-48 overall, 37-22 on the road and 62-52 with the over. Jake Odorizzi is getting the start for the Twins this evening. He is 13-5 on the season with a 3.44 ERA.
The Twins ran off to a 10-0 lead through three innings on Thursday and never looked back. Minnesota put up 14 hits for their 13 runs, including three home runs. Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario and Luis Arraez each went long. Arraez finished with three RBI while Miguel Gonzalez added four hits and two RBI. Michael Pineda threw the first five innings and got the win to move to 8-5, while Devin Smeltzer pitched the final four innings and earned his first save of the year.
Rangers drop another
Texas dropped the series opener last night and they have lost seven of their last nine games. The Rangers are 60-61 overall, 35-23 at home and 61-56 with the under. Mike Minor gets the start for Texas this afternoon. He is 11-6 on the season with a 2.90 ERA.
Pedro Payano took the loss for the Rangers last night to fall to 1-2 on the year. He gave up eight runs over 3.1 innings. At the plate, Texas had 13 hits. Hunter Pence and Willie Calhoun each hit solo home runs.
MLB Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Twins are 11-3 in their last 14 Friday games and 5-2 in their last seven road games.
Texas
The Rangers are 5-13 in their last 18 games following a loss and 2-6 in their last eight games against a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
Odorizzi was in a rough patch for a bit, but seems to have righted the ship. He has allowed just two earned runs over his last 17.1 innings on the mound. Minor has been impressive as well, pitching 15 scoreless innings over his last two starts. If Minor continues to pitch well, I like the Rangers at home. Texas still has the hitting to win games, they just need to be given a chance on the mound. Minor provides that chance. Odorizzi may be able to match Minor, but I think Texas will continue to hit at home.
MLB Prediction: Texas Rangers -105
