Twins vs. Nationals Prediction
Interleague play comes to Washington, D.C. tonight as the Nationals host the Twins at 7:05PM ET. Let’s dive into the pitching matchup and our pick for the game.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Nationals are -169 money line favorites to beat the Twins, who have odds of +156 to pull off the upset tonight. With Kyle Gibson set to face Gio Gonzalez in the pitching matchup, the over/under for tonight’s game is 7.5 runs.
Bet Tonight’s Twins vs. Nationals Game
Gibson is 0-2 on the year with a 3.57 ERA through 17.2 innings of work. He’s coming off a strong outing versus the Angels in which he allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings. His strikeout and walk rates are the biggest issues, as he’s only striking out 5.09 batters per nine and walking 5.09 batters per nine. He’s also received plenty of batted-ball luck thus far, as his BABIP is sitting at .254. With a 5.25 FIP, he’s due to get smacked around.
Tonight will be Gonzalez’s third straight on the new season. He’s 0-0 with a 0.69 ERA through 13.0 innings of work. He’s allowed just one run on the year via seven hits and his FIP is an outstanding 2.89. While he has received some batted-ball luck himself (.182), his strikeout rate (8.31), walk rate (2.08) and home run rate (0.69) are all healthy.
OUR PICK: The Nationals are a perfect 5-0 in their last five home games and have won nine of their last 12 games overall. They’re also 5-2 in their last seven games coming off a loss and are 12-4 in their last 16 games versus a right-handed starter. Gibson figures to struggle mightily with Washington’s offense tonight and Gonzalez should continue to pitch well. With the Nationals too expensive on the moneyline, lay the -1.5 on the runline to regain some value.
