Monday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – While many people were busy anointing the Boston Red Sox as the favorites in the MLB this season, the New York Yankees quietly went about their business and appear to have yet another outstanding product this season as they get ready to start a home series Monday with the Minnesota Twins.
The Yankees are coming off a 10-7 loss Sunday as the Detroit Tigers avoided the sweep, but at least offensively New York was dominant in its first series of the year and now has a 2-1 record. Minnesota, on the other hand, avoided a sweep Sunday afternoon as it edged host Toronto 4-3.
Oddsmakers and online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Yankees a -145 favorite and the over-under is 10. The contest will air live at 7:00PM EST on ESPN.
Starting on the mound for New York will be young Ivan Nova (1-2, 4.50 ERA in 2010), while the Twins counter with veteran Scott Baker (12-9, 4.49 ERA).
According to the latest trends, Baker is 2-2 when starting against the Yankees with an ERA of 4.15 and a WHIP of 1.346. His team’s record is 2-3 in these starts. The under is 3-2. Nova will be making his first career start against the Twins.
