Thursday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – Thursday’s action in baseball is highlighted by the fourth and final game between the Giants and Cardinals in St. Louis.
Oddsmakers form online sportsbook Bodog have made the host Cardinals a –170 money line favorite over the Giants, who are +160 on the ML after taking two of the first three games of this series. They won 7-5 in extra innings on Wednesday thanks to some clutch hitting by Nate Scheirholtz.
The Cardinals will send Jaime Garica to the mound against the Giants’ Jonathan Sanchez. Garcia has been terrific this year, posting a 5-1 record with a 3.28 ERA over 68.2 innings of work. He did get roughed up in his last outing, however, allowing 12 runs on 11 hits in just 3.1 innings against the Rockies (who eventually won 15-4).
According to latest MLB trends, the under is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings between the Giants and Cardinals, although the over has hit in two of the first three games and came close in Game 2 as well. (The over in Game 2 was 7.5 and the Cardinals won, 4-3.)
In other NL West action, the surprising Arizona Diamondbacks are –125 money line favorites over the Washington Nationals, who are +115 on the ML after taking two of three from the Phillies. In the American League, the Indians are –128 money line favorites over the visiting Rangers, who are +121 on the ML and the host Mariners are –114 ML favorites over the Rays (+107).
