Sunday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – The pitching rotation is in flux for the Chicago Cubs as they prepare to wrap up their three-game series on national TV Sunday night at the Boston Red Sox.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the host Red Sox a -140 favorite in the contest and the Cubs are a +130 underdog. The over-under is set at 9 and the game will start at 8:10PM EST on ESPN.
After dropping the series opener 15-5, the Cubs rebounded with a 9-3 victory Saturday as a nine-run eighth inning propelled them to the win.
Chicago’s projected starter for Sunday night in Matt Garza is a late scratch and will likely be replaced by swingman James Russell (1-4, 6.26 ERA), who will be making his fifth start and 14th appearance. Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (0-1, 5.40 ERA) gets the start for the Red Sox.
According to the latest MLB trends, Wakefield is 3-1 with a 3.68 ERA in six appearances (five starts) in his career versus the Cubs. Russell has pitched three scoreless innings of relief in his career against the Red Sox.
Elsewhere in interleague play, the New York Yankees host the New York Mets at 1:10PM EST. The Yankees are -177 favorites with an over-under of 9.5. Florida wraps up its series with in-state foe Tampa Bay at 1:15PM EST. The Rays are a -139 favorite, while the over-under is set at 7.5.
The Los Angeles Angels are +123 underdogs at home versus the Atlanta Braves, who are -133 favorites. The over-under is 8 runs for the 3:40PM EST start.
