Friday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – Tonight marks the beginning of two huge series in the NL West and AL Central.
If the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants hope to cut into the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks’ leads in their respective divisions, they must get off on the right foot tonight.
The White Sox are in Detroit starting at 7:05PM ET and right away face a tough task in Justin Verlander. With their ace on the mound and a 5.5 game lead in the AL Central, the Tigers are –195 money line favorites over the White Sox tonight, who are +182 on the ML. The over/under total for this important game has opened at 7 runs.
In the NL West, the Giants open a three game series with the D-Backs, who have won nine in a row and have taken a stranglehold on the division lead. But despite sitting six games above the Giants in the West, oddsmakers have made Arizona a +145 money line underdog against Matt Cain and San Francisco (-155). The Giants are 6-1 in Cain’s last seven starts versus the Diamondbacks and 6-1 in his last seven home starts against Arizona.
In an intriguing non-divisional matchup, the Boston Red Sox will host the Texas Rangers at 8:10PM ET. The Red Sox are –135 money line favorites versus the Rangers, who are +125 on the ML. According to latest MLB trends, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams in Boston while the Rangers are just 15-38 in their last 53 games against the BoSox.
