Saturday’s MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – The Yankees and Phillies keep winning with the Giants and Pirates keep losing. Check out Saturday’s MLB lines.
With their win on Friday night, the New York Yankees are now in sole possession of first place in the AL East. They’ll once again take on their bitter rivals the Red Sox today at 4:10PM ET, and will have ace CC Sabathia on the mound as well. Oddsmakers have made the Red Sox +135 money line underdogs against the visiting Bombers, who are –145 on the ML.
The Yankees have won eight straight games and following another victory on Friday night, so have the Phillies (-145). They’ll battle Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants (+135) again today at 4:10PM ET, and will send Cole Hamels to the hill. The Giants have struggled since the acquisition of Carlos Beltran and now have lost seven of their last 10 games. They’re still in first place in the NL West, but only by a half game over the Diamondbacks.
Another team that can’t get its act together is the once-hot Pittsburgh Pirates, who are –115 money line favorites against the San Diego Padres (+105) tonight at 7:05PM ET. The Pirates have lost eight in a row and are now eight games back of the Brewers in the NL Central despite being in first place not long ago. They’ll send Paul Maholm to the mound in hopes of righting the ship.
Switching back to the American League, the Tigers have opened up a four game lead in the AL Central and will look to extend their grasp on the division when they send Justin Verlander to the mound at 7:10PM ET. The host Royals are +180 on the money line against Detroit, which is –190 on the ML.
