Saturday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – As the pennant races heat up in both leagues, perhaps the most intriguing battle remains in the NL West.
On Friday night in San Francisco, the Giants cut their deficit down to five games in the NL West with a convincing victory over the first-place Diamondbacks, who had their nine-game winning streak snapped. Things don’t get any easier for Arizona on Saturday when it faces ace Tim Lincecum, who will look to draw the Giants (-155) within four games of the Diamondbacks (+145) lead. The first pitch is set for 9:05PM ET tonight.
In the American League Central, the Tigers increased their lead to 6.5 games over the White Sox, while the Indians remain 5.5 games back. Detroit will go for the series win on Saturday when it takes on Chicago at 4:10PM ET. Oddsmakers have made the Tigers –105 money line favorites versus the Sox, who are also –105 on the ML.
The Phillies are once again rolling and will look to win their sixth-straight game tonight when they take on the Marlins at 7:10PM ET. Visiting Philadelphia is –165 on the money line versus host Florida, which is +155 on the ML. According to latest MLB trends, the Phillies are 5-0 in Cole Hamels’ last five starts versus the Marlins and 21-5 in their last 26 games versus the Marlins.
Back to the AL, the Red Sox are –147 money line favorites versus the Rangers, who are +138 on the ML. The over is 5-1 in Colby Lewis’ last six starts against the Red Sox, who are 38-15 in their last 53 home games against Texas.
