Thursday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – One day after acquiring the biggest name on the trade market, the Giants will try to make it two in a row against the Phillies.
The Giants paid a steep price (top prospect Zach Wheeler) but acquired the top hitter available on the trade market on Wednesday when they reached a deal for Carlos Beltran. They also beat the Phillies last night and can take the series with a victory tonight at 7:05PM ET. Because there is some uncertainty surrounding whether or not Tim Lincecum (flu) will start, odds have not been released for this contest.
The Phillies’ NL East counterparts the Atlanta Braves will try to make it three in a row when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates at 7:10PM ET. Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have made the Braves –155 money line favorites over the Pirates, who have opened as +145 underdogs.
In the American League, the Reds Sox (-270) will also look to win their third straight game when they host the Royals (+235) at 1:35PM ET. Josh Beckett will take the hill for Boston, which is 4-0 in his last four starts and 17-4 in his last 21 home starts versus a team with a losing record.
Also in the AL, the Angels head to Detroit one day after Ervin Santana no-hit the Indians. The Halos are +123 money line underdogs against the host Tigers, who are –131 on the ML. According to latest MLB trends, the Angels are just 2-6 in their last eight road games against the Tigers.
