Thursday Opening MLB Odds
(The Spread) – There are plenty of intriguing matchups on Thursday’s MLB schedule but none bigger than Red Sox–Yankees.
The Yankees and Red Sox split the first two games of their three-game series this week and will play the third and final contest tonight at 7:10PM ET. Oddsmakers have made the host Red Sox –200 money line favorites versus the visiting Yankees, who are +185 on the ML. Jon Lester will take the hill for Boston, is 5-1 in his last six starts versus the Yankees.
Also in the American League, the Rangers are –140 money line favorites over the visiting Rays, who are +130 on the ML. According to latest MLB trends, the Rays are 4-1 in their last five road games versus Texas, although they’ll face a tough challenge tonight versus C.J. Wilson.
Switching leagues, if the St. Louis Cardinals are going to make a miracle run in the NL Central they can start by knocking off the red-hot Brewers tonight in Milwaukee. The first-place Brewers are –175 money line favorites, however, and will have ace Yovani Gallardo on the hill. Of course, Milwaukee is 1-4 in Gallardo’s last five home starts against the Cardinals and 1-5 in his last six starts versus St. Louis overall.
Staying in the NL, the Cincinnati Reds are +125 home underdogs versus the Philadelphia Phillies (-135) at 12:35PM ET this afternoon. The Phillies are 4-0 in their last four road games against Cincinnati and 37-15 in their last 52 games overall versus the Reds.
