Tuesday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – After 160 games, the AL Wild Card race is officially tied up while the NL Wild Card remains up for grabs as well. Who’s favored in the pivotal games on Tuesday?
On Monday night the Red Sox dropped their eighth game in their last 10 outings and now they and the Rays are tied in the American League Wild Card standings with just two games remaining in the regular season. Rather shockingly, the Red Sox were crushed 6-3 by the last-place Orioles, even though Boston had ace Josh Beckett on the hill.
The Red Sox will be in Baltimore once again tonight at 7:05PM ET, while the Rays will once again host the Yankees at 7:10PM ET. Oddsmakers have installed Baltimore as a +150 money line underdog against Boston (-160), while Tampa Bay is a –170 money line favorite versus the Yankees (+160).
In the National League Wild Card race, the Braves are still a half game up but only because the Cardinals blew it in Houston on Monday night. Atlanta lost its third straight game and seven of its last 10, but at least the Braves fell to Cliff Lee and the Phillies. St. Louis couldn’t handle the last-place Astros, who are 38 games out of first place at the momentum. (Granted, the ‘Stros did have Wandy Rodriguez on the hill and with nothing to play for, they were nice and loose.)
The Cardinals will send Jake Westbrook to the mound against Henry Sosa tonight at 8:05PM ET, while the Braves will take on Roy Oswalt with Derek Lowe on the hill. The Braves are +100 money line favorites versus the Phillies (-110), while St. Louis is –160 money line favorites versus Houston (+150).
