Sunday’s NL MLB Picks
National League action is hot. Our team of writers and handicappers give you the best plays for Sunday, July 6 2008.
Pittsburgh (40-46) at Milwaukee (48-39)
The Milwaukee Brewers continue to have their way with the Pittsburgh Pirates at Miller Park.
The third-place Brewers, who are 3 1/2 games back of NL Central-leading Chicago, are 27-13 at Miller Park, where they’ve won four in a row and eight of nine. Milwaukee is on the verge of sweeping its third straight home series from Pittsburgh (40-46), which will try to finish .500 on its six-game road trip.
Jeff Suppan (5-6, 4.30 ERA) looks for his second straight win Sunday after getting plenty of run support his last time out. He allowed five runs and nine hits in five innings of an 8-6 win at Arizona on Tuesday.

Chi Cubs (52-36) at ST. Louis (50-39)
A day after their walk-off victory, the Cardinals look to prevent the Cubs from getting a rare series win on the road and further cut into their archrivals’ NL Central lead on Sunday.
The Cubs have gone 3-6 on this trip, and the only winning one they’ve had since April was a 4-3 swing through San Diego and Los Angeles from June 2-8. They have lost nine of their last 12 road games and are 19-26 overall on the road.
Sean Marshall (0-2, 4.87) could be headed back to the Cubs bullpen after this start due to Carlos Zambrano’s recent return from the disabled list. In fact, the only reason Marshall may be getting this turn in the rotation is because he’s a left-hander.

Florida (44-43) at Colorado (37-51)
In what’s already been a wild series, Colorado (37-51) won 12-6 over Florida on Saturday for its fifth straight victory after losing eight in a row. The Rockies stayed hot after rallying from a club-record nine runs down to win 18-17 on Friday.
With their offense in gear and their ace on the mound, the Rockies appear to be in good shape to record their first four-game sweep of Florida since Sept. 7-10, 1998.
The Marlins (44-43), meanwhile, have lost three in a row and are in danger of slipping to .500 for the first time since they were 3-3 on April 6.
After Marlins’ starters Scott Olsen and Ryan Tucker allowed 16 earned runs over nine innings in the last two contests, Florida hopes Mark Hendrickson (7-7, 6.12) can shake off his recent struggles Sunday.
Hendrickson tries to avoid a sixth straight loss after giving up six runs and 10 hits in six innings of a 9-6 defeat to Washington on Tuesday.
