Cubs sign catcher David Ross
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – After signing ace Jon Lester to a massive contract earlier this offseason, the Cubs made a prudent move to bring his former catcher to the Windy City as well.
The Cubs have reportedly signed catcher David Ross to a two-year, $5 million contract on Tuesday. The deal was agreed to last Friday but was finalized on Tuesday evening after Ross passed a physical. He’s batted just .197 in 287 plate appearances since 2013 but he brings leadership and experience working with Lester that will prove inviable for the Cubs.
Ross will also backup starter Miguel Montero, who was acquired from the Diamondbacks in exchange for Jeferson Mejia and Zack Godley on December 9. Montero batted .243 with 13 home runs and 72 RBI for Arizona last year.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cubs currently have 12/1 odds to win the 2015 World Series.
