Giants trade for Panda’s replacement
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (The Spread) – The Giants have found their short-term replacement for Pablo Sandoval.
On Saturday the Giants acquired infielder Casey McGehee from the Marlins in exchange for right-handed pitchers Kendry Flores and Luis Castillo. The 32-year-old McGehee hit .287 with four home runs and drove in76 runs for the Marlins a season ago. He will be the team’s replacement for Sandoval, who signed a massive contract with the Red Sox at the start of free agency.
Flores, 23, registered a 4.09 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and a 112/32 K/BB ratio in 105 2/3 innings at High-A San Jose last year. Castillo, meanwhile, made his American debut in 2014 with Class-A Augusta where he posted a 3.07 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 58 2/3 innings while recording 10 saves.
The defending champion Giants have had a quiet offseason. They re-signed pitchers Jake Peavy and Sergio Romo but lost in their pursuits to re-sign Sandoval and big money free agent Jon Lester. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Giants are currently 16/1 to win the 2015 World Series.
