Davis seeking a $200 million contract?

Is free agent slugger Chris Davis seeking a contract that will pay him $200 million or more?

View Tonight’s MLB Odds

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that Davis has a seven-year offer worth more than $150 million on the table from the Orioles but the 29-year-old slugger and his agent Scott Boras want more. Davis could wait for Jason Heyward and some of the other big-name free agents to sign first while allowing his market to solidify. Davis had a .923 OPS with 47 home runs and 117 RBI in 160 games this past season for Baltimore.

Speaking of Heyward, FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi reports that the Giants are talking with multiple free agent outfielders but prefer the former Cardinal right-fielder, as well as Alex Gordon and Dexter Fowler for defensive reasons. Morosi also notes that San Francisco is also talking to Yoenis Cespedes and Justin Upton, but the two might not be fits because of their defensive liabilities. Despite winning three World Series titles since 2010, the Giants have been searching for consistent left-field help for years.

One other free agent rumor: FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that the Nationals are “cooling” on free agent right-hander Mike Leake and that a deal is now “unlikely.” The Nationals looked like they were about to sign Leake on Wednesday but are now pursuing other options. Leake remains an option for the Giants, Cardinals and Diamondbacks, although after Arizona signed Zack Greinke for over $200 million and acquired Shelby Miller from Atlanta, the D-Backs no longer seem like a great fit for Leake.
