Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made the World Series champion San Francisco Giants +105 money line underdogs for their game tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers (-111). The over/under total for this contest is currently sitting at 6.5 runs.
Two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum will take the mound tonight against fellow youngster Clayton Kershaw. “The Freak” was lights out in the postseason last year, beating the likes of Derek Lowe, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee (twice) in head-to-head matchups.
The Giants had a rather quiet offseason, choosing to re-sign guys like Aubrey Huff and Pat Burrell instead of breaking the bank for free agents. They did have to sign Miguel Tejada after Juan Uribe inked a deal with these very Dodgers, and they also promoted rookie Brandon Belt from the minors after he tore the cover off the ball this spring.
The Dodgers didn’t make any splashes this offseason either, although adding Uribe gives them more versatility in the infield and some pop to their lineup. Perhaps their biggest move was replacing manager Joe Torre with bench coach Don Mattingly, who will make his big league managing debut tonight.
According to latest trends, the over is 5-0 in Lincecum’s last five road starts versus the Dodgers and 4-0 in his last four starts versus L.A. overall. The Giants are also 7-1 in his last eight starts versus the boys in blue and 4-1 in their last five games against their NL West rivals.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are just 2-8 in their last 10 games with the total set at 6.5 or lower, and 1-5 in their last six games as a home favorite of –110 to –150. That said, they’re 5-1 in their last six games overall and 4-0 in Kershaw’s last four starts during game 1 of a series.
