Monday MLB Free Pick
(The Spread) – One of the best rivalries in baseball will be renewed again tonight when the Giants host the Dodgers at 10:15PM ET.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Giants –107 money line favorites over the Dodgers, who are +101 on the ML. The over/under for tonight’s game has opened at 6.5 runs.
These two teams opened their season against each other, with the Dodgers taking three of four games in L.A. In that series, the Giants displayed horrendous defense, committing five errors and a couple other miscues that eventually led to their demise. Clayton Kershaw pitched an absolute gem in Game 1 of that series, hurling four innings of shutout ball while striking out nine in a 2-1 win.
Kershaw will square off against 21-year-old youngster Madison Bumgarner, who was touched up in his first start of the season. He lasted only three innings while giving up three runs on five hits in a 3-1 loss to the Padres last week. He struck out two and walked three in his brief stint.
These two teams come into this game with opposite records. The Dodgers are 5-4 overall and 2-3 on the road, while the Giants are 4-5 and 2-1 at home. Both teams are coming off losses on Sunday, as the Giants fell to the Cardinals at home and the Dodgers lost 7-2 in San Diego.
MLB Free Pick: The Giants typically play well at home, which is why they’re favored in this contest but the value is with Kershaw and the Dodgers. San Fran has played some sloppy baseball, particularly Aubrey Huff. The club will be down one of the best outfielders tonight as Andres Torres continues to deal with an injury that he suffered against the Cardinals on Saturday. Aaron Rowand is usually a fine defender, but even he had one go off his glove in centerfield on Sunday while filling in for Torres. Call it lack of concentration or just a bad start but either why, the Giants’ defense has been nasty. Considering Bumgarner didn’t pitch well last week and now must face a red-hot Matt Kemp, San Fran could be in store for another bumpy game tonight. They were fortunate to take two of three games from the Cardinals over the weekend and I don’t think their luck will continue tonight. Take L.A.
