Monday MLB Free Picks
(The Spread) – After sweeping the Giants in SF, the Atlanta Braves continue their assault on the West tonight when they take on the San Diego Padres.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the visiting Braves –128 money line favorites over the Padres, who are +121 on the ML. The over/under total for this game is currently 6.5 runs and the first pitch is set for 10:05PM ET.
The Braves absolutely embarrassed a somewhat hot Giants team over the weekend, abusing San Francisco pitching in all three games. They beat a struggling Madison Bumgarner on Friday, Tim Lincecum on Saturday, and then scored seven runs against the Giants’ bullpen in an extra-innings win on Sunday. Even though they’re 11-12 overall, the Braves are red-hot.
The Padres, on the other hand, are not. They’ve dropped four in a row after being swept by the Phillies at home, although their pitching did hold Philly hitters to only 12 runs in the four-game set. The problem is that San Diego’s offense only produced a miserable three runs the entire series.
MLB Free Pick: I’m going to play the law of averages here and suggest that the Braves are due for a letdown and the Padres are due for a victory. It’s difficult to win on the road, regardless of who the opponent is. The Braves are playing with a lot of confidence after sweeping the Giants, but four relievers were used on Sunday, so the bullpen is tired and that puts a lot of pressure on starter Derek Lowe. Granted, Lowe is a veteran and can handle those kinds of expectations, but this is an Atlanta team that was not playing well heading into the San Francisco series. They’re about to wrap up a long west coast road trip and may overlook an inferior opponent like San Diego. According to latest MLB trends, the Braves are 0-5 in Lowe’s last five starts versus the National League West and 1-4 in his last five Monday starts. Take San Diego.
