Saturday MLB Free Pick
(The Spread) – The Philadelphia Phillies have thrown two three shutouts at the expense of the San Diego Padres. Is the stellar pitching going to continue for the visitors?
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Phillies -110 favorites versus the Padres, who are +100 on the ML. The first pitch for tonight’s ball game is set for 8:35PM EST.
Getting the start for Philadelphia tonight is Joe Blanton, who enters play with an 0-1 record and a 7.27 ERA in three starts He is 2-1 with a 5.32 ERA in three career starts versus the Padres. Tim Stauffer will start for San Diego after going 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA in his first four starts. Stauffer is 0-1 with a 16.39 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies.
Philadelphia won the first game of the four-game series 3-0 behind a strong start from Roy Oswalt, then Cole Hamels was equally as good Friday night in a 2-0 Phillies victory.
MLB Free Pick: I have to ride the hot team here. While Blanton is not the greatest pitcher in the world by any stretch of the imagination, he can be effective at times as he was in his last start. Pitching in the spacious Petco Park will help him as will a Padres lineup that has been dreadful recently. I also expect Philadelphia’s offense to come alive in this one against Stauffer, who has never had success against the Phillies. Even three or four runs should win this one for Philadelphia. At a good price, I really like the Phillies -110 here.
SATURDAY MLB FREE PICK: PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES -110
