Saturday MLB Free Pick
(The Spread) – After Friday night’s marathon between the Colorado Rockies and the Pittsburgh Pirates, will either side have anything left in the tank for Saturday?
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Pirates -108 favorites in the matchup, while the Rockies are slight underdogs at -102. The opening pitch is set for 7:05PM EST in Pittsburgh.
On Friday night, the Pirates outlasted the Rockies 4-3 in a 14-inning game that took five hours to complete. A Jose Tabata run-scoring double off the wall scored rookie Josh Rodriguez in the 14th inning to win it.
Greg Reynolds will make his first start of the season for the Rockies and his first MLB appearance since 2008. Pittsburgh counters with Charlie Morton, who allowed just one run on three hits with two strikeouts and five walks over six innings of a 4-3 win over St. Louis in his first start.
MLB Free Pick: Here is why I like Pittsburgh tonight. For one, they are at home which is always a plus. But aside from that, Colorado spent its bullpen a little bit more than the Pirates did Friday night. For example, closer Houston Street went a full three innings and almost surely will not be available Saturday. The Pirates might have one or two guys in the bullpen they will not use, but they should have most of the arms available. In addition, I believe Charlie Morton might be finally putting something together after being wildly inconsistent over the last couple of years. I’d rate him above Reynolds in the matchup of pitchers. Look for Pittsburgh to scratch out a few runs against Reynolds early and hold the Rockies at bay late. It’s baseball so anything can happen, but I really like the Pirates in this one.
