Thursday MLB Free Pick
(The Spread) – NL West rivals will meet for the final game of a four-game series tonight in Colorado when the Rockies host the Diamondbacks.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made the Rockies –159 money line favorites over the visiting Diamondbacks, who are +149 on the ML. The over/under total for tonight’s 8:40PM ET start time is 9.5 runs.
The Diamondbacks won their second game in a row in Colorado on Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory. Ian Kennedy threw a gem for Arizona, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run over eight innings of work. Second baseman Kelly Johnson also went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while Justin Upton and Chris Young each drove in a run apiece.
For the Rockies, starter Jason Hammel (7.0 IP, 5 hits, 2 runs, 5 Ks) pitched well enough to pick up the victory but his offense left him hanging. Seth Smith was the only one in Colorado’s offense to pick up multiple hits, as he finished 2-for-3 with a double and scored the only run of the game for the Rockies.
MLB Free Picks: Take the under. Outside of a 12-run outburst in Game 1 of a double header on Tuesday, the Rockies’ offense has been non-existent. Even with that 12-run effort, Colorado is averaging just over 3.5 runs per game in their last five outings. According to latest MLB trends, the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these two teams when the game is played in Colorado, and 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall. The under is also 5-0 in umpire Chris Guccione’s last five games behind the plate in Colorado. For the total to be sitting at 9.5 runs with the way the Rockies are hitting, it’s almost a gift.
THURSDAY MLB FREE PICK: DIAMONDBACKS/ROCKIES UNDER 9.5
