Wednesday MLB Picks
Our team of writers and handicappers hand out their MLB picks and predictions for Wednesday, May 6.
Minnesota Twins at Baltimore Orioles, 7:05PM ET
Kevin Slowey has benefited from outstanding run support this season. The Minnesota Twins’ last starter wasn’t so fortunate.
After being shut out for the second time in 2009, the Twins look to continue their success at the plate when Slowey starts as they open a two-game set with the struggling Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.
Slowey (4-0, 5.17 ERA) has yet to lose this year after winning a career-high 12 games last season, but his win total is largely due to strong production from Minnesota’s lineup. He’s given up five runs in three of his five starts but has gotten a total of 35 runs to work with.
The right-hander won his third straight start despite allowing five runs and eight hits in five innings of a 7-5 victory over Kansas City on Friday.
Slowey could have used a big game from the Twins’ batters in his only start against the Orioles (10-17), giving up four runs and seven hits in six innings as Minnesota lost 5-3 on June 3.

Atlanta Braves at Florida Marlins, 7:10PM ET
The Atlanta Braves have had a hard time scoring runs over the last 10 days. That’s a familiar sight for the Florida Marlins, who had no problems containing the Braves’ offense in the clubs’ first series this season.
The Marlins look to improve to 4-0 against the Braves in 2009 when the struggling NL East rivals open a two-game series Wednesday night in Miami.
Atlanta (11-15) has scored more than three runs just three times over its last nine games, totaling 29 while going 2-7. The Braves have been outscored 22-13 during a four-game losing streak that continued with a 4-3 home defeat against the New York Mets on Tuesday.

Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds, 7:10PM ET
Strong pitching helped carry Cincinnati on its latest successful road trip. The Reds hope those efforts continue as the team returns home.
Bronson Arroyo looks to give the Reds another strong start in the opener of a two-game set against the surging Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.
Behind a three-hit, eight-inning performance from Edinson Volquez, Cincinnati (14-12) beat Florida 7-0 on Tuesday to conclude a 3-2 trip.
Cincinnati has outscored opponents 27-11 and posted a 1.41 ERA while winning four of its last six contests – all the victories coming by shutout.
