Brewers aim to stay hot against Cubbies
The Cubs used seven relievers to secure yesterday’s extra-inning win over San Francisco. And, considering this afternoon’s starting hurler, manager Joe Maddon didn’t have to think twice about it.
Cy Young candidate Kyle Hendricks draws the assignment for the squad’s series opener vs. Milwaukee, with a 1:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Miller Park. Online sports book BetDSI gives the visiting club odds of -195 to prevail. Conversely, the Brewers represent +170 underdogs. The over/under run figure rests at eight.
Last week, Hendricks (13-7, 2.09 ERA) concluded August on an exceptional note. The 26-year-old threw seven spotless innings against Pittsburgh, yielding three hits and walking just one. He’s 11-3 with a 1.60 ERA since May 28
Meanwhile, Milwaukee’s Zach Davies (10-6, 4.07) hopes to keep up his own fine work. The Arizona native has gradually developed into Craig Counsell’s ace over the course of another frustrating season for thea organization. Most recently, Davies limited the Cardinals to three runs and fanned nine across 6 1/3 innings.

Coming off a three-game sweep of the Pirates, the Brew Crew should have a fair amount of confidence entering the Windy City. Yet the fact remains that Hendricks boasts a 0.88 WHIP in four career assignments in the Badger State. Look for Chicago to claim its 38th road triumph in 2016.
