Giants aim to obliterate Rockies again
San Francisco erupted for 19 hits in last night’s victory over Colorado. Will the West Coast crowd witness further offensive heroics shortly?
The two NL West combatants meet again this evening, with a 10:15 p.m. ET first pitch at AT&T Park. Online sports book Bovada.lv gives the Giants odds of -190 to handle their business. Conversely, Walt Weiss’ bunch is considered a +165 underdog. The over/under run total rests at 7.5.
With Buster Posey leading the way, Bruce Bochy’s crew cruised to a 12-3 triumph in the series opener. The catcher’s 1,000th career base knock came on a fifth-inning homer that narrowly cleared the left-field wall. Southpaw Matt Moore also worked into the eighth, fanning 11 and keeping the Giants (83-74) one game up on St. Louis for the second wild-card spot in the National League.
The hosts need Jeff Samardzija (12-10, 3.83 ERA) to deliver a similarly strong performance in several hours. Most recently, the Notre Dame product dominated San Diego, allowing just four hits while striking out nine. He’s 1-1 with a 2.38 in three lifetime starts vs. the Rockies.

As for the visitors, they’re ecstatic to send Tyler Chatwood (11-9, 4.08) to the hill. The 26-year-old righty boasts a 7-1 record with a 1.88 ERA in his past 12 assignments away from Coors Field. He held San Francisco to one unearned run across seven frames on May 27, too.
Johnny Cueto’s imminent return to the rotation should give the Giants even more incentive in the sprint to the finish line. Still, Chatwood’s not to be trifled with these days. Look for Colorado (73-84) to post an exceptional effort here.
