Yanks yearn for fourth straight W over Toronto
In the ever-evolving American League East, no squad ever seems out of the race. Not even the Yankees, on whom most people gave up more than a month ago.
In fact, New York has won three in a row entering tonight’s contest against Toronto. Yet oddsmakers are skeptical of the Bronx Bombers’ ability to extend the streak. Online sports book Bovada.lv prefers the Blue Jays as 1.5-run favorites, while Joe Girardi’s crew enters as a +159 underdog. The over/under run total sits at nine.
Visiting skipper John Gibbons will send Marcus Stroman to the hill with the goal of averting a sweep. The righty carries a respectable 3.65 ERA in his last seven appearances, but last week’s outing vs. Tampa Bay didn’t go so well. Stroman allowed four runs and five base knocks across six innings.
On the home side, Bryan Mitchell draws the nod in place of the injured Chad Green. The youngster’s been working his way back from a toe injury since the first week of spring training. In six outings at Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes Barre, Mitchell went 0-1 with a 4.29 ERA.

Girardi won’t hesitate to turn this into a bullpen affair, but Toronto’s liable to crank a couple of long balls first. Expect Stroman to secure his 10th victory of the campaign. On the opposite end, New York seems destined to slip to 39-29 at home.
