From Rotoworld: Matz surrendered three runs on three hits over six innings while taking a no-decision in Thursday’s loss to the Dodgers. Matz did a nice job of limiting the hits and runs, but this was far from a crisp outing. While he did strike out eight over six innings, he also walked five and surrendered a pair of homers — Justin Turner (solo shot) and Kike Hernandez (two-run shot) both burned him in the third inning. He will bring a 3.60 ERA and 1.10 WHIP into a road start against the Marlins next time he toes the rubber. On the whole, he has pitched well enough in his first three starts of the season after missing the first two months of the campaign working through an elbow injury.
Locke once again failed to record an out in the fifth inning, allowing five runs on seven hits over four innings in a loss to the Cubs on Thursday. It’s the third time in five starts this year that the southpaw has fallen short of even qualifying for a win. Not that he’d have earned one anyway Thursday, as the Cubs pounded out 11 runs against Locke and company. In five starts, Locke is now 0-3 with a 5.70 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. He’ll keep searching for that elusive first win Wednesday against the Mets.
