Latest on Montgomery via Rotoworld: Montgomery was lit up for seven runs over just 2 1/3 frames in Thursday’s loss to the Brewers. Yikes. Montgomery has pitched quite well since going into the Cubs’ rotation, but he obviously didn’t have it in this one. The left-hander allowed six hits and walked a pair, finally getting pulled after allowing five straight to reach with one out in the third. Montgomery should have some leash on a rotation spot, but he can’t afford more outings like this with the trade deadline looming.
Gausman will start the first game after the All-Star break for the Orioles on Friday versus the Cubs. He’ll be followed by Wade Miley, while Dylan Bundy will bring up the rear as the fifth starter as the O’s look to limit his workload. Chris Tillman is likely to start the fourth game, which presumably means Ubaldo Jimenez would go third if he’s still in the rotation.
Bet Tonight’s Cubs vs. Orioles Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Cubs have not been a good road play this season, as they’ve dropped 17 of their last 25 games away from Wrigley Field. They’re also a bad bet when Montgomery starts, dropping seven of his last eight outings overall, and four straight on the road. The Orioles, meanwhile, are 41-14 in their last 55 interleague home games. They’re also 14-4 in Gausman’s last 18 home starts.
