Latest on both pitchers from Rotoworld:
Butler allowed one run over four-plus innings in his start against the Padres on Wednesday. Butler was effective, but since it took him 92 pitches to get 12 outs, he didn’t hang around long in this one. He’s completed six innings just once in eight tries for the Cubs, that happening in his debut on May 12. His 4.19 ERA isn’t bad, but the Cubs are going to have to try to do better.
Gonzalez improved to 7-1 on Tuesday, limiting the Marlins to three runs on six hits over his seven frames. Gonzalez racked up eight strikeouts on the evening while issuing two free passes. Most of the damage against him came on a two-run homer off the bat of Marcel Ozuna in the fifth inning. The left-hander will carry an impressive 2.96 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 87/40 K/BB ratio into Monday’s start against the Cubs.
Bet Tonight’s Cubs vs. Nationals Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Cubs have beaten the Nationals in seven of the last nine meetings between these two teams. They’re also 6-0 in their last six games following a loss, are 5-2 in their last seven games when their opponent scores two runs or less in their previous game, and 4-0 in their last four games versus a left-handed starter. On the other side, the Nationals are just 4-9 in Gonzalez’s last 13 starts coming off five days of rest and are 2-9 in his last 11 outings versus National League Central opponents.
