Padres vs. Pirates Prediction
Can the San Diego Padres manage a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates as a big underdog today at 1:35PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Pirates are -175 money line favorites versus the Padres, who have odds of +157 to pull off the upset in Pittsburgh. With Clayton Richard set to face Jameson Taillon in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 8.5 runs.

From Rotoworld: Richard pitched decently in Sunday’s loss to the Pirates, giving up four runs on seven hits in his six innings of work. The veteran southpaw struck out five on the afternoon while walking two. He surrendered a solo homer to Andrew McCutchen in the first inning, then shut the Pirates down until they scratched out three runs in his final frame. He’ll carry a disappointing 5.40 ERA and 1.61 WHIP into a rematch against these same Pirates on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
Taillon was pummeled for eight runs on 11 hits and a walk over 3 2/3 frames in Tuesday’s loss to the Reds. Yikes. The righty has really been knocked around in two straight outings, allowing 18 runs — 17 earned — and 20 hits over 6 2/3 innings. His two starts prior to that — six runs over 10 1/3 frames — weren’t great, either, so hopefully Taillon is healthy. He’ll try to bounce back in a nice matchup Sunday versus the Padres.
Bet Today’s Padres vs. Pirates Game
OUR PREDICTION: I just don’t trust Taillon at the moment. As previously mentioned, he’s allowed 18 runs (17 earned) and 20 hits over just 6 2/3 innings in his last two outings. He really hasn’t pitched well in four straight outings and while Richard hasn’t been great this season either, I see too much value in the padres receiving plus points on the road. Hopefully San Diego can jump on Taillon early and score a big win as an underdog.
