The pitching matchup today has Trevor Bauer (15-8, 4.39 ERA) on the mound for Cleveland to face Jeremy Hellickson (2-3, 6.87) of the Orioles. Hellickson has struggled lately, allowing 12 runs over his last two starts, a total of just 7 innings. Hellickson has 88 strikeouts this season with 42 walks and a 1.28 WHIP. Bauer has been pretty good over the last few weeks, allowing one run or less in six of his last nine outings. Bauer has 170 strikeouts this season with 56 walks and a 1.40 WHIP.
Cleveland has won the first two games in this series, picking up a 5-0 win on Friday and a 4-2 win on Saturday. The Tribe have now won 17 straight games to get to 86-56 on the season and 38-29 at home. Baltimore has fallen to 71-71 overall and 27-41 on the road.
Saturday’s game saw more good pitching for Cleveland. While Josh Tomlin lasted just five innings and allowed two runs, he still got the win thanks to four scoreless innings from his bullpen. Gabriel Ynoa took the loss by allowing three runs in 4.2 innings of work for Baltimore. Francisco Lindor hit his 28th home run of the season to lead the Indians while Carlos Santana had two hits and drove in a run. Tim Beckham had his 20th home run of the season to lead the Orioles.
It’s now been multiple weeks since the Indians last lost a game. Now they turn the ball over to Bauer, who posted a 2.31 ERA over six starts in August. He has really seemed to find his stride over the last five weeks and I expect another good effort tonight. If Bauer is to struggle, the Tribe still have a great bullpen to turn to. Hellickson hasn’t pitched very well as of late and certainly isn’t inspiring confidence from the Orioles. I see him struggling with the Cleveland hitting tonight.
