Today’s pitching matchup has Mike Bolsinger (0-2, 5.75 ERA) on the mound for the Jays to face Tim Adleman (3-2, 4.95) of the Reds. Bolsinger has started four games this year. He has gone 20.1 innings, allowing 13 earned runs with 15 walks and 14 strikeouts. His WHIP is 1.87. Adleman is coming off his best outing, an 8-inning, 1-hit, scoreless performance against the Phillies. He has 34 strikeouts with 14 walks and a WHIP of 1.25.
Toronto has taken the first two games of this series, putting up a 17-2 win on Monday and then a 6-4 win on Tuesday. The Jays are 25-27 overall and 14-12 at home while the Reds are 24-27 overall and 10-14 on the road.
Toronto continued to power the ball over Cincy on Tuesday, racking up four home runs for its six runs. Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Kendrys Morales and Russell Martin all homered in the win. Cincinnati also had three homers in the loss, with Zack Cozart getting two of them and Joey Votto hitting his 13th. Neither starting pitcher got past four innings of work in Tuesday’s game, but the Toronto bullpen shut the door over the final two innings. Roberto Osuna got his 10th save of the season in a perfect ninth.
Toronto has a shaky starter in Bolsinger and he is facing a Cincinnati lineup that can hit the long ball. The Reds are putting Adleman on the mound today. He is coming off a great showing against the Phillies and faces a powerful Toronto lineup, but a lineup that also misses plenty of pitches. I think that will be the key to the upset today. The Reds will continue to get the homers while the Jays will find their bats missing more than they are hitting.
