Royals vs. Padres Pick
Can the Kansas City Royals find a way to pick up a road win against the struggling San Diego Padres when the two teams meet tonight at 10:10PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, San Diego is favored at home, as the Padres are getting odds of -115 to win. The Royals are listed with a money line of +105 to win, while the over/under total for the game has been set at 8 runs. These two teams haven’t met since 2014.

The pitching matchup for tonight’s game has Eric Skoglund (1-1, 4.32 ERA) on the mound for KC to face Jhoulys Chacin (4-5, 5.65) of the Padres. Skoglund is a rookie that has made two starts. His first was a 6.1-inning shutout effort against the Tigers. His second start saw him go just two innings, allowing four runs. Chacin is struggling right now, giving up 13 earned runs in his last 11 innings of work. He has 56 strikeouts and 23 walks in 63.2 innings of work this season. His WHIP is 1.46.
Kansas City is coming off a four-game series split with the Astros to snap Houston’s long win streak. The Royals are 26-33 overall and 9-17 on the road. Kansas City is averaging just 3.63 runs per game while allowing 4.56. Eric Hosmer has been leading the team with five homers, 21 RBI, 14 doubles and a .304 batting average. Salvador Perez has 11 homers and 32 RBI, but is questionable for tonight’s game due to a thumb injury.
The Padres have lost five straight entering tonight’s game, including being swept by the Diamondbacks in Arizona this week. San Diego is now 23-38 overall and 13-16 at home. The Padres are putting up 3.43 runs per game while giving up 5.34 per contest. San Diego has been led by Wil Myers, who has 12 homers, 12 doubles and 31 RBI. Hunter Renfroe is adding 13 home runs and 30 RBI.
This game features two pretty poor teams. Neither lineup has been able to produce and both teams are sending questionable pitchers to the mound. Still, the Royals are sending an inexperienced arm to the mound in a road atmosphere. Chacin is struggling in recent starts, but is at home and up against a poor lineup. I trust Chacin to handle himself at home better than Skoglund on the road. I think the Padres will get to the rookie early and hold on for the win.
