Will the San Diego Padres complete a rare sweep today when they host the Detroit Tigers at 4:40PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Detroit is the slight favorite on the road, as the Tigers are getting odds of -115 to win. San Diego is listed with odds of +105 to prevail, while the over/under total for the game has been set at 9 runs.

The pitching matchup today has Jordan Zimmerman (5-5, 5.25 ERA) on the mound for the Tigers to face Clayton Richard (5-7, 4.20) of the Padres. Zimmerman doesn’t have great numbers, but his last four starts have been competitive. He has went 26.2 innings and allowed eight earned runs. On the season he has 55 strikeouts with 25 walks and a 1.46 WHIP. Richard is similar. His season stats aren’t the best, but he has competed in recent starts. His last two starts have seen him go 15 innings while allowing four earned runs. He has 67 strikeouts with 25 walks and a 1.41 WHIP this year.
The Padres have won the first two games in this series, picking up a 1-0 win on Friday and a 7-3 victory on Saturday night. San Diego is now 31-44 overall and 19-18 at home while Detroit is 32-42 overall and 14-26 on the road.
The Padres rallied against the Detroit bullpen, scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the win. Shane Greene and Alex Wilson combined to give up the runs, adding to the bullpen woes of the Tigers. Hector Sanchez opened up the door in the eighth with a pinch-hit, two-run home run. Cory Spangenberg added a pair of RBI for San Diego as well. Both starters went six innings but didn’t factor in the decision. Anibal Sanchez had the lead when he left after allowing just two runs, but it didn’t last. Andrew Romine led the Detroit hitters with two RBI.
I would say I like Zimmerman’s improved starts to lead Detroit to a win, but the Tigers haven’t been hitting well and the bullpen has been a disaster all year. Zimmerman isn’t one to usually get deep into games, which forces the bullpen into key situations. The Detroit hitters could struggle against Richard, as he has been one of San Diego’s better pitchers. They haven’t done well against worse arms in the first two games of this series.
