Tigers vs. White Sox Pick

Will the Detroit Tigers take the rubber match from the Chicago White Sox when the two close out their series today at 2:10PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Tigers are the slight favorite on the road, as they are listed with -115 odds to win. The White Sox are listed with a money line of -105 to win, while the over/under total has been set at 10.5 runs.

Today’s pitching matchup features Matthew Boyd (5-7, 6.24 ERA) on the mound for the Tigers to face Lucas Giolito (0-1, 6.00) of the White Sox. Boyd has struggled lately, allowing seven runs over 2.1 innings in his last start. He has given up at least three runs in his last 14 starts. Boyd now has 73 strikeouts this season with 41 walks and a 1.75 WHIP. Giolito has made one start this year, allowing four runs over six innings against the Twins earlier this week. He had four strikeouts with no walks, but gave up three home runs.

These two have split the first two games in the series, with the White Sox getting a 3-2 win on Friday and Detroit earning a 6-3 victory on Saturday. Detroit has won four of its last five against the White Sox. The Tigers are now 56-72 overall and 25-40 on the road. Chicago is 51-77 overall and 29-34 at home.

Saturday saw the Tigers post five runs over the third and fourth innings and hold off Chicago from there. Carlos Rodon gave up the five runs and lasted only five innings on the mound to fall to 2-5 on the year. Buck Farmer got his third win by pitching 5.2 innings and allowing just three runs. Justin Upton hit his 28th home run of the season and drove in two runs to lead Detroit. Miguel Cabrera added three hits and had a home run as well. Yolmer Sanchez had a home run and drove in a pair of runs to lead the White Sox.

Bet on Tigers vs. White Sox

You can’t count on the Tigers to consistently hit or pitch well. That is what makes them dangerous as a favorite. One thing we do know is that Boyd is going to give up a handful of runs and then turn things over to one of the worst, if not the worst, bullpen in MLB. That is what never makes me feel good about the Tigers. While I could see them lighting up Giolito and getting a win, I can’t trust their pitching to hold down Chicago and their bats can easily have an off day.
