The pitching matchup for today’s game has Chris Tillman (1-0, 3.52 ERA) taking the mound for Baltimore to face Jose Berrios (2-0, 0.59) of the Twins. Berrios has pitched in two games, but they have been stellar. He has pitched 15.1 innings, allowing just on run with 15 strikeouts and only two walks. His WHIP is just 0.39. Tillman has three starts this year. He has allowed six earned runs in 15.1 innings with 7 walks and 12 strikeouts. His WHIP is 1.50.
The Twins have won the first two games in this series in very different ways. They took the opener on Monday, 14-7. They followed that up on Tuesday with a 2-0 victory. Minnesota is now 24-18 overall and 13-5 on the road. Baltimore is now 25-19 overall and 15-6 at home.
Tuesday’s game saw Ervin Santana pitch a complete-game, two-hitter for the Twins. He had two walks with six strikeouts to earn his seventh victory in the season. Dylan Bundy didn’t pitch too bad either, going seven innings while allowing six hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts. The lone runs in Tuesday’s game came on a RBI single from Byron Buxton and a solo home run from Brian Dozier.
Berrios is pitching at a level that will be hard to maintain. However, Santana gave him a nice blueprint to follow. While Tillman has a good ERA, his WHIP is still higher than you would like. That should open the door for the Twins to manufacture a few runs. That may be all it takes with Berrios on the mound. Baltimore has been great at home, but Minnesota has had its number this week. Keep in mind, the Twins have one of the best records on the road in all of baseball.
