Pirates vs. Giants Prediction
Is the betting total for Wednesday afternoon’s matchup between the Pirates and Giants at 3:45PM ET set too low?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Giants are -130 money line favorites versus the Pirates, who have odds of +120 to pull off the upset in San Francisco. With Trevor Williams set to face Jeff Samardzija in the pitching matchup, the total sits at 8 runs.

From Rotoworld: Williams walked away with the win after allowing five runs over 6 2/3 innings against the Rockies on Friday. Williams got lots of help from his offense, but he settled down for the most part after giving up three runs in the first inning. This was the first time he had allowed more than three earned runs in a start since June 10, though it’s not unexpected in a Coors Field start. The 25-year-old owns a 4.74 ERA through 14 starts and six relief appearances on the year and lines up for a start against the Giants on the road next week.
Samardzija was lifted after allowing five runs in 4 1/3 innings Friday versus the Padres. Samardzija seemed to be trending in the right direction last month, but now he’s gotten roughed up by one of the game’s worst offenses in back-to-back starts, yielding 12 runs in 10 1/3 innings versus the Padres. His ERA is back over 5.00 (at 5.05) for the first time since mid-May.
Bet Today’s Pirates vs. Giants Game
OUR PREDICTION: In the Pirates’ last six games on the road, the over is 5-1. The total has also gone over in four of the Giants’ last five games at home and in four of their last five games overall. Both starters are coming off lousy performances and while Samardzija strikes out plenty of batters, he hasn’t been great at limiting hitters from crossing home plate.
