Latest on Cashner from Rotoworld: Cashner surrendered two runs in seven innings of a lopsided 9-3 win over the Phillies on Wednesday. He sailed through six innings unscathed before giving up a two-run homer to Michael Saunders in his seventh and final inning of work. He allowed eight base hits and one walk while fanning only two batters. It was Cashner’s first win of the season despite an excellent 2.45 ERA through seven starts. It is unlikely he will continue to rock such a great ERA considering he has more walks than strikeouts on the season. He has just 19 strikeouts and 21 walks in 40 1/3 innings.
Porcello surrendered four runs in six innings Wednesday against the Cardinals. Porcello’s 58/12 K/BB ratio in 55 1/3 innings suggests he should be doing better than a 4.23 ERA, but he leads the AL with 66 hits allowed to date. He benefitted from a good amount of luck on his way to winning a Cy Young Award last year. He’s dealing with the other side of the coin right now.
