Marlins vs. Mets Prediction
Given the pitching matchup tonight in New York, the Marlins should be a solid runline play for bettors when Miami visits the Mets at 7:10PM ET.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Marlins are -164 money line favorites versus the Mets, who have odds of +149 to pull off the upset at home. With ace Jose Fernandez set to oppose Rafael Montero in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 7 runs for tonight’s game.
Bet Tonight’s Marlins vs. Mets Game
MIAMI: Fernandez suffered a cramp in his last start and left the field after seven innings of work against the Royals. He recorded a strikeout to end the seventh inning, then grabbed his calf afterward before limping off the field. He also struck out nine in the process and now owns a 13-7 record to go along with a 2.91 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP.
NEW YORK: Montero will make the start tonight after he was scratched from his start on Saturday in Double-A. He’ll fill in for Jacob deGrom, who is being skipped in the rotation to gain some extra rest. The 25-year-old Montero struggled pitching in the Pacific Coast League this season, but he owns a 1.70 ERA and a 38/18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 47 2/3 innings over eight starts in Double-A.

OUR PICK: The Marlins are just 3-7 in their last 10 games versus the Mets but they’re a perfect 6-0 in Fernandez’s last six starts versus New York. They’re also 8-2 in his last 10 starts versus National League East rivals, are 15-6 in his last 21 outings when he pitches the opener of a new series, and have won 41 of his last 61 starts overall. Given how the Mets are starting a Double-A pitcher tonight against an ace, the Marlins are a safe play on the runline.
