Phillies vs. Nationals Prediction

Are the Phillies a value play for bettors when they visit the Nationals and Stephen Strasburg today at 4:05PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Nationals are -210 on the money line to beat the Phillies, who have +175 odds to pull off the upset. With Aaron Nola set to face Strasburg in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 8 runs for today’s game.

Nola has made one start in 2017 and allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings last Saturday against the Nationals. He picked up his first win in the process while striking out seven batters and walking two. It was his first regular-season start since last July, when he went on the disabled list due to an elbow injury.

This will be Strasburg’s third start of the season. He’s 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 14 innings of work. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks across seven innings in last Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Phillies. He struck out eight in route to a no-decision against his division rivals.

Bet Today’s Phillies vs. Nationals Game

OUR PICK: Strasburg has looked great in the early going but the Phillies have already seen him and thus, there’s value in taking the plus odds with the underdog today. The Natioanls are just 1-4 in their last five games after allowing five runs or more in their previous game, a contest in which they did not play well defensively. Anthony Rendon has not played well at third base in the early going and injuries to Trea Turner and Stephen Drew have affected them at shortstop. The Phillies are worth a roll of the dice.
