Redbirds try to overwhelm Rockies again
After pummeling the Rockies last night, are the Cardinals ready to sweep their foes from the National League West this afternoon?
The two squads meet again at 3:05 p.m. ET. According to oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv, Mike Matheny’s gang should record its fifth consecutive victory. Colorado, on the other hand, represents a +127 underdog. The over/under run figure rests at 12.5.
St. Louis ace Adam Wainwright wasn’t particularly sharp on the mound yesterday, surrendering three homers in 5 1/3 innings. Yet his heroics at the plate stole the show in the middle game of the series. Wainwright notched a career-high four RBIs, doubling home two runs in the third and recording a two-run single in the fifth. Jedd Gyorko and Matt Adams added dingers in the Cards’ 10-5 triumph.
The visitors aren’t asking Luke Weaver (1-3, 3.21 ERA) to muscle up in a few hours. Instead, they simply want him to focus on keeping his fastball down. The 2_-year-old rookie elevated entirely too many offerings his last time out, allowing five base knocks and six unearned runs to the Giants. Weaver will be working for the first time at Coors Field.

German Marquez (0-3, 5.06) doesn’t have much MLB experience, either. Walt Weiss’ newest starter owned Double-A Hartford, though, going 9-6 with a 2.85 ERA in 21 assignments. His debut in the bigs came on Sept. 8.
It’s easy to envision another matinee shootout in Denver, particularly given the prolific offenses in play. With the exception of his most recent appearance, however, Weaver’s accustomed to operating in low-scoring affairs. We’ll bank on the bats to dovetail just a bit here.
