From Rotoworld: Samardzija yielded just one run on four hits over seven innings in Wednesday’s win over the Pirates. Lovely work from Samardzija, who struck out eight and walked two in the outing. In terms of run-scoring action, only an RBI double by Adam Frazier in the second inning stood between Samardzija and seven shutout frames. He is a potential trade candidate at the deadline and has pitched to a 4.85 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 146/17 K/BB ratio in 21 starts (135 1/3 innings) this season. If the Giants opt not to move him at the deadline, his next start would come in Oakland against the A’s.
Manaea yielded three runs over seven innings in a no-decision Thursday versus the Blue Jays. The Jays got to the left-hander with the longball, as Josh Donaldson had a solo shot off Manaea in the first inning and Kendrys Morales hit a solo blast off of him in the fifth. He was able to limit the damage for the most part, though, in part because he had just his third zero-walk game of the season. Manaea struck out seven batters on the day and finishes July with four quality starts in five tries. He’ll get the Giants in his first outing of August.
